Unreality TV: The UK Reality TV Blog

Unreality TV started off as a bit of an experiment, but quickly grew into a monster!

We were kicking around the idea of developing a blog last year and Lisa suggested that we design a reality TV blog. Big Brother had just wrapped up and The X Factor was beginning, so we quickly put together a WordPress blog with a custom-designed theme. I designed the graphics of the evil TV and the Brad Mullet character using Photoshop and a NISIS graphics tablet.

And so we launched our newborn site into the wild, hoping it would survive in a fickle world. It did.

Unreality TV has fast become a top destination for news on Reality TV shows. Starting off in August 2005 with an audience of zero, the site grew in popularity quickly due to the optimisation techniques we had used and the quality content. As of March 2006, the site has been pulling in more than 3,000 pageviews per day and is on target to exceed 120,000 pageviews for the whole month.

Next Steps

The site had a design refresh in early March 2006 to iron out the bumps from our hasty launch. We are currently investigating ways to build a better community around the site and are evaluating open source forum platforms at the moment.

Why Does A Web Design Company Need A Reality TV Website?

We don’t, not really. However, if you’re a prospective client reading this, you can be assured that we have real world expertise in building successful websites.

It’s one thing to design a site and hand over to the client, but quite another to manage the long-term success of a website. Unreality TV has helped us gain quality insights into how search engines rank websites and best practices in optimising our content. We have also used Unreality TV to test on-site advertising using Google AdSense, BlogAds and affiliate marketing.

Through managing this website (and others), Scribble Designs are equiped to work with you not only on the initial design of your website, but on the long-term monitoring and development of your site as it grows.
